Beach Hop 2020

Beach Hop 2020 – 20th Anniversary

The Repco Beach Hop 2020 is situated in the sunny Coromandel township and is STILL the place.
Traditionally in late March, it has now been delayed due to the Covid-19 virus.

What date is Beach Hop?

It is now planned for the 25 th – 29 th November, 2020

Where is the Beach Hop?

The Whangamata Beach Hop is an event held in the town of Whangamata, on the southeast coast of the
Coromandel Peninsula in the North Island of New Zealand.

Is Beach Hop 2020 still on?

Yes, it’s still on from the 25 th – 29 th November 2020.
Due to the Corona virus and social distancing it will be in a modified form we expect.
Where the country and this virus will be from a business and health perspective is yet to be seen.
And will be dictated by how well the country copes in the coming months of the new norm!

Whangamata
Famous for its beaches and rain forests, it has so much more to offer.
Founded in 2001, it is now the largest event of its kind for classic cars in New Zealand.
The Beach Hop represents the golden era of cars – V8 engines, bench seats and open-top convertibles. Classic cars,
classic colours, often quirky, chromed and gleaming in the summer sun.
This five-day festival is unrivalled for its atmosphere and comes with hot rods from the 50’s and 60’s.
Car contestant numbers are currently still limited to 1000 entries, so there are numerous classes and contests for all
levels of enthusiasts – cars, motorbikes and even boats. Amongst the many events, some of things that are the fun to
watch and highlights are the drag races and the many parades and convoys.
On the social side, there are food halls and venues to cater for all, and there is a real family and friendly, fun time
atmosphere. The town opens itself and accepts everyone for the week. Streets are closed for displays, parades and
the competitors to show off their cars. Many music bands perform during the event – from acoustic & blues to heavy
metal and lots of rock and roll and rockabilly

You can Party like its 1959 – Well, with guidelines

There’s a swap meet too, so come and inspect what’s on offer – What is surplus to some can be gold to others.
Whilst there is a wide range of accommodation available in town and up and down the Coromandel coast, for this
event you will need to book as early as possible. Accommodation for many miles around will be sold out. The major
cities of Tauranga (1hr 30min), Hamilton (1hr 50min) and Auckland (2 hours) are still accessible for the day. Good
placed to check are Airbnb and Bookabach or Bachcare.

However, the Coromandel does not just have the Repco Beach Hop. There are numerous picturesque towns and
beachside and country settlements dotted around the peninsula to visit. Thames, Coromandel, Pauanui, Tairua, Hot
Water Beach, Whitianga & Whangamata to name but a few are within easy commuting distance – ensure you have a
designated sober driver though! There’s fishing & boating, surfing and beach activities, bush tramps & walks, arts &
crafts, cycling trails, light trains, the mining history and museums, adventure parks… or just simply picnic on the
beach and kick a ball around or hit a few sixes whilst everyone is milling around in town.
